Kürzlich habe ich ein verrostetes Blechkästchen vor der Müllverbrenungsanlage gerettet. Keine Ahnung, was drin war, aber es sah interessant aus.
Recently I saved a rusty tin box from the waste cumbustion. I had no idea what was inside, but it looked interesting.
Zu Hause habe ich es ausgepackt und festgestellt, dass es ein Campingkocher war.
When I unpacked it at home, I realized that it was a camp stove.
Zwei kleine Kanister, ein Messing-Tank, der Brenner mit Windschutz, die Bügel und ein Sechsbein um einen Topf draufzustellen, ein kleines Blechkästchen mit Ersatzteilen und etwas Werkzeug.
Kästchen, Kanister und Ersatzteilebox sind aus Weissblech weich verlötet.

Der kleine Kanister ist für Spiritus, der grosse für Petroleum.
The smaller can is meant for spirit, the bigger one for petroleum.
Der Brenner im Detail: Das Petroleum steigt aus dem Tank von links durch die beiden Seitenarme in die Verdampferkammer ganz rechts. Dort verdampft es und der Petroleumdampf drückt durch die beiden innen liegenden Arme nach unten in die Brennerdüse. Gleichzeitig erhöht er den Druck im Tank wodurch sich der Brennstofftransport vom Tank in die Brennerdüse selbsttätig aufrecht erhält.

The burner in detail: the petroleum rises from the tank through the two side pipes into the evaporator on the right side of the picture. There it evaporates and the petroleum gas presses down through the two inner pipes into the burner jet. At the same time it increases the pressure in the tank thus automatically maintaining the fuel transport from tank to jet.

Aus dieser Information, der Prägung auf der Tank- Unterseite, der Tatsache dass es ein "No 1 Compact Primus Outfit" ist und nicht No2 oder No3 oder nur ein einzelner Brenner sowie der Packvorschrift konnte ich mit Hilfe der Information der Website www.spiritburner.com und dem dortigen Forum das Herstellungsdatum eingrenzen:

Dieser Petroleumkocher ist eine echte Antiquität: Er wurde zwischen 1903 und 1910 hergestellt und hat daher gut und gerne seine 105 Jahre auf dem Buckel.
This camp stove is a real antique: it was produced between 1903 and 1911 and is therefore at least 105 years of age.
Nachdem ich mich informiert hatte, wie Petroleum Brenner zu betreiben sind und wie man eventuell auftretende Störungen behebt, habe ich ihn heute getestet.
After gathering some information about how to operate pressurized Petroleum burners and how to fix problems, I made a test today.
Die Lederdichtung unten an dem Pumpkolben war völlig ausgetrocknet und musste erst gut in Öl getränkt werden.
Ganz tief unten im Pumpzylinder zwischen Pumpzylinder und Tank sitzt ein Rückschlagventil. Dessen Öffnung war mit eingetrocknetem Öl verklebt. Durch Füllen des Pumpkolbens mit Spiritus und leichten Druck auf den Pumpkolben konnte es aber freigemacht werden, ohne es ausbauen zu müssen.
The leather washer of the pump piston was completely dry and had to be soaked in oil first. Deep down in the pump cylinder between cylinder and tank there is a non-return valve. Ist nozzle was clotted with dried oil. Filling the pump cylinder with spirit and applying pressing the pump piston it could be opened without having it to disassemble.
Die Tankentlüftung war undicht - hier half provisorisch ein O-Ring.
The tank exhaust opening was leaky - an O-ring solved the problem.
Und die Brennerdüse musste mit dem beiliegenden Werkzeug durchstochen werden.
The hole in the burner jet had to be opened with the enclosed prick-tool.
Und dann funktionierte er auch schon wieder grundsätzlich, brannte aber noch mit gelber Flamme und starker Russentwicklung.
Da war also noch Einiges zu tun...
After these basic adjustments the burner worked pricipally. However it burned with yellow flame and produced a lot of soot.
So there was some more work to do...
